Do I need to file a claim form before consulting with the provider law firm?

No. You will simply contact the provider law firm directly using a toll-free number provided to you. Members can access and download the LegalShield mobile app, which provides direct contact with their provider firm.

Do the provider law firms work for LegalShield?

LegalShield has contracted with the provider law firms to provide the legal services under the membership contract. LegalShield is not a law firm; LegalShield has contracted with provider firms in each state to provide the legal services directly to the member.

How are the law firms selected?

LegalShield selects the provider firms based on rigorous, detailed research on the firm. There is an interview process, and the company determines which firm would best meet the needs of the state/province. The majority of the provider firms were established entities for many years prior to their relationship with LegalShield.

How do you assure the quality of the law firm?

LegalShield’s Provider Services department monitors the service of our provider firms on a continual basis. LegalShield monitors the customer service aspect of the provider firms, but does not advise the lawyers in the practice of law.

How many areas of law are included in my plan?

The majority of lawyers with the provider law firm and the referral lawyer database are general practice lawyers who focus on specific areas of law. LegalShield has a Referral Attorney Database listing more than 6,500 lawyers who work with the company, and that database lists all of the areas of law that each lawyer works.

How many attorneys are there?

LegalShield offers a provider law firm per state that coordinates all services under the plan benefits. We currently have more than 6,500 referral lawyers in the LegalShield network.

How many issues are resolved over the phone?

More than 90% of issues are resolved over the phone; however, our provider firm lawyers stand ready to assist should a phone resolution not be possible.

How many times am I allowed to contact my lawyer?

Members have consultation on unlimited business legal matters. Once you have spoken to a lawyer about a particular legal issue, you may call at no charge to discuss new information pertaining to that matter. If the matter is very involved, you may retain a provider firm attorney at a discounted rate.

How much does it cost to call my provider law firm?

Once you become a member, you may call your provider law firm for no additional cost.

What happens when I call my provider law firm?

You will give initial information pertaining to your legal matter to your provider firm. Our service level agreement guarantees members receive a return call within eight business hours from a lawyer.

What is covered in my legal plan?

Members may receive consultation on any legal issue, no matter the area of law, for all individuals covered by the plan.

What is the background and experience of your attorneys?

Our Provider Law Firm network is the result of 40 years of experience working with thousands of lawyers across North America. Each lawyer at the provider law firm or referral attorney must meet or exceed the following requirements before they are even considered to provide service to our members:

  • Carry a minimum of $100,000 liability insurance
  • Minimum of two years’ experience practicing law
  • Must be in good standing with the state Bar Association. If there is any public discipline, this would disqualify an attorney.
